Welcome to KIWI SKIN
New Zealand has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, for both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Early detection has never been more important.
Do you have moles or spots that:
-
Have changed in size, shape or colour over time.
-
Bleed or do not heal after several weeks.
-
Are asymmetrical or have irregular borders.
-
Are larger than ¼ inch in size.
The KIWI SKIN is a team of like-minded, qualified and caring clinicians who utilise the latest techniques, equipment and training in order to check moles or lesions on your body and surgically remove any they feel require biopsy and testing.
We welcome you to visit us at our purpose-built community focussed clinic in the heart of Mapua. Here we offer a quiet and safe space to have your skin checked. Any resulting surgical skin procedures are then scheduled and undertaken by reputable, skilful staff in our pristine new rooms.
Top of the line equipment and an experienced clinical team ensures you will receive only the best of care.
Most skin cancers are highly treatable when they are caught early.
Having screenings is an important part of your healthcare routine. Any adult who’s never had one should consider scheduling a full-body skin exam to establish a baseline and to discuss whether regular skin checks are necessary.
Annual skin exams may be recommended for anyone who:
-
Has a history of melanoma, other skin cancers or precancerous skin lesions.
-
Has a first-degree relative who has had melanoma.
-
Has a large number of moles or a history of atypical moles.
-
Has a history of sunbed use.
-
Has a history of blistering sun burns.
-
Has a history of significant regular sun exposure through activities such as boating or living in a sunny location, or occupations such as landscaping, viticulture, farming or construction.
-
Is an organ transplant recipient.
If you have some of the above listed risk factors, come in and see us – book an appointment now.

It is quick to perform, convenient, and only produces a small wound.
Minor Skin Surgery (excision)
A excision is usually recommended for any suspicious / underdetermined lesion or mole, so a soft tissue sample can be taken and sent to the laboratory to check for the presence of skin cancer. The intension is to remove all suspicious cells of a lesion in the single procedure. The surgical option our doctor recommends will vary based on how big the BCC is, its location, and type.
You will need a consultation with a doctor prior to any surgical procedure. Fees will apply.
Cryotherapy involves freezing the skin to -190o, resulting in destruction of the tumour and surrounding skin. It is a quick, cost effective technique with good cure rates. It may involve some initial discomfort and will form a scab. Cryotherapy does not normally cause scarring, but can leave a white mark. Fees will apply.
